Enforcement of the Law for the Promotion of Utilisation of Recyclable Resources |

Return & Recycling of Business PCs
On April 1st, 2001, the Law for the Promotion of Utilisation of Recyclable Resource was enforced in Japan, and PC manufactures are obligated to take back and recycle Business PCs. HP Japan offers the following means to confirm properly in regards to the law.
| 1. |
Provisional procedure before approval |
Under the Wastes Disposal and Public Cleaning Law, a person needs approval to practice return and recycling of Business PCs. For manufacturers to independently practice return and recycling services, they must receive approval from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and designation from the Ministry of the Environment as a regional recycling provider. HP is in the process of preparing applications to conform to these regulations. Therefore, until HP receives approval, we will continue to provide return and recycling support through official contractors who meet the regulations of the Wastes Disposal and Public Cleaning Law. |
| 2. |
Building return & recycling system after the approval |
We will promote return & recycling, improving convenience for customers, and contribute to building a recycling-based economic system. We will separately announce methods for return & recycling later after approval. |
