2 How does HP recycle its HP and non-HP computer equipment?
  1. Dismantling the product.
  2. Sorting and reuse of components (usually chips).
  3. Material separation and recycling.
  4. Energy recovery.
  5. Disposal.
3 How does HP ensure the computer equipment are recycled?
HP's global recycling standards for computer hardware require recyclers to respect high environmental and employment standards. All vendors must conform to our Supplier Code of Conduct.

Our hardware recycling standards require our vendors to reuse, recover or recycle materials and components where practical. We require vendors to store and process materials to prevent releases to the environment and prohibit the exportation of materials without our approval. Vendors must account for materials processed, and allows HP or our designee to perform assessments to verify compliance with our standards.

Our printing supplies recycling policy requires that all recyclable materials are recycled to recover their material values and to maximize recovery rates, while materials that cannot be recycled are recovered for energy or incinerated to minimize materials sent to landfill. Recycling can only be conducted at facilities approved by HP that comply with all applicable laws and regulations. Recyclers must track and report numbers of cartridges processed.

We assess vendors to identify organizations eligible to recycle products we collect. Assessments are repeated at least every three years.
