HP's dual cartridge offerings are aimed at giving customers more choice and flexibility to meet their different printing needs

HP P+ "Superior Black" Inkjet Print Cartridges
— standard HP quality and reliability you can trust

This option with HP Pigment Plus (P+) technology is designed for customers who demand the best performance from their HP printers and printing supplies. It's ideal where the highest print quality is essential, e.g., important documents that should stand out — proposals, contracts, reports, school assignments, etc.

HP "Simple Black" Inkjet Print Cartridges
— affordable price, uncompromised HP reliability

If you're currently using refill inks or remanufactured cartridges, or thinking about doing so, here's an alternative. For non-critical everyday printing, e.g., emails, online transaction receipts, online articles, etc., this option delivers draft-quality (lighter black), but consistent, reliable, trouble-free performance that HP print cartridges are known for — at an affordable price.

Differences between P+ Superior Black and Simple Black

Documents printed using the standard HP P+ Superior Black cartridges will have laser-sharp, deep, rich black text and clear contrast, while the HP Simple Black cartridges produce images with lighter contrast and sharp but grey-looking black text. Based on HP's market research, customers prefer sharp printouts and reliable printing at all times, but less colour (including black) intensity is acceptable for less critical documents, in exchange for lower-priced inks.

Comparing HP Simple Black with third-party inks

HP Simple Black print cartridges contain ink specially formulated to meet the everyday printing needs of our customers.

They provide uncompromised HP reliability at an affordable price, and are the ideal alternative to using refill inks or remanufactured cartridges. Indeed, for a price comparable to third-party inks, customers get a trouble-free, reliable printing experience that Original HP Supplies are known for.

What's more, even without P+, HP Simple Black offers print quality that many generic refill inks would find hard to match.

But more importantly, refill inks and third-party (remanufactured) cartridges have been known to cause problems to printers, including clogged nozzles and short-circuits caused by ink leaks. QualityLogic studies have also shown that they can fail prematurely, or even be dead on arrival.

For peace of mind, always choose original HP inks. They are designed to work together with HP printers to give you the most hassle-free, seamless printing experience.
