HP PhotoREt 3 precision technology helps you get the best value from your HP printers and supplies

HP PhotoREt 3 Precision Technology features in the HP DeskJet 970 Cxi Professional Series, HP PhotoSmart P1000/P1100 Printers and their new inkjet print cartridge - the HP 78 Tri-colour Print Cartridge. A significant break-through in office inkjet printing, HP PhotoREt 3 delivers professional photo-quality results and the speed to satisfy your busiest users.

InkJet printing — the basics

The printed image — both text and graphics — is actually composed of microscopic ink dots. The colour quality and sharpness of the image is determined by a number of factors - the quantity and size of the dots, how precisely they are placed, how they are combined to create colours, as well as the quality of the ink and how well it bonds to the paper or film. Some printer manufacturers make claims that their technology produces better print quality simply by adding more dots-per-inch (dpi). In fact, this is only effective up to a point, and only on coated papers that can handle the greater quantity of ink. HP has a much more effective solution to achieve the highest quality photo printing, even on plain paper - HP PhotoREt 3 Precision Technology.

A better way to put ink on paper

Rather than increase the dpi, HP PhotoREt 3 overlays up to 29 ultra-small drops of ink in a single dot location. This enables the printer to produce up to 3500 shades of colour per dot. Traditional inkjet printers produce only 8 colour shades per dot. They must produce most shades through a process called half-toning that produces only a rough approximation of the colour.

The HP difference is in the details

HP PhotoREt 3's colour layering technology together with the smaller ink drops, increased number of nozzles and improved HP inks in the HP 78 Tri-colour Print Cartridge, produces incredibly rich colour photo images using fewer dots per inch.

The printer has less information to process, so print speed is faster. And because dpi is not excessive, the user gets stunning results on both plain paper and photo paper. Flesh tones and other colours are far more natural, and transitions from colour to colour are much smoother.

HP PhotoREt 3 Precision Technology helps you get the most from your HP printer and print cartridge. All the components of the HP printing process work together to let your users concentrate on their work and get the sharp text and photo-quality results that always make a great impression.
