New colour shifting HP security seal

To make sure that you are getting a genuine HP cartridge, look out for the new colour shifting HP security seal. This seal is placed across the perforated tear strip of the HP LaserJet cartridge pack and on the side of an inkjet cartridge pack.

Follow the instruction to identify a genuine HP print cartridge

  1. Look for the colour switching security seal.
  2. Turn the box side to side and see the colours switch between dark and light.
  3. When the background is dark, half of the lettering “ORIGINAL TONER” or “ORIGINAL INK” will be light and vice versa.

Existing security seal still in use

Some Original HP print cartridge packaging are still carrying the previous colour shifting security seals. These print cartridges are genuine HP products and should not be mistaken as fakes. To check if the seal is genuine, turn the box from side to side, the two shades of blue should switch places.

Placement of security seals

For inkjet cartridge packaging, the HP security seal is placed on the right panel of the box. For toner cartridge packaging, look for the security seal on the top or side of the perforated tear strip.

How to spot a counterfeit?

  • Missing security seal on packaging
  • Missing colour switching feature
  • Signs of repackaging
  • Product has no usual outer wrappings, sub-packs or pallets
  • Packaging that resembles HP but does not bear the HP logo
  • Questionable price
  • Better prices than those offered by recognized HP distributors
  • Frequent cartridge failure, poor or inconsistent print quality
