The nine proprietary inks provide extraordinary detail in your printed images. |
 |
The new HP Photosmart 8750 uses nine HP Vivera Inks in three cartridges to provide image quality improvements that photographers will appreciate. Reproducing substantially more of the sRGB colour space, the standard used in most digital cameras and monitors, the new HP 9-ink printing system includes a HP 101 Blue Photo Inkjet Print Cartridge, making the blue hues found in common photo subjects richer and deeper than ever, especially in the mid-tones, where the impact is especially stunning.

The main difference between 8-ink and 9-ink printing, lies in the new blue HP Vivera ink found in the HP 101 Blue Photo Inkjet Print Cartridge.
HP's 8-ink printers use three print cartridges — photo, tri-colour, and grey photo. In this arrangement, each print cartridge has three chambers, but both the photo and grey photo print cartridges contain a black ink, so the system uses eight unique colours.
The new 9-ink HP Photosmart 8750 also comes with three inkjet print cartridges.
- Most notably, the HP 101 Blue Photo Inkjet Print Cartridge which contains light cyan, light magenta, and a new blue ink.
- The HP 97 Tri-Colour Inkjet Print Cartridge1 contains cyan, magenta, and yellow inks.
- The HP 102 Grey Photo Inkjet Print Cartridge2 contains dark grey, light grey, and photo black inks.
The new blue ink in HP 101 replaces the black ink in HP 99 (used in 8-ink printers), hence giving the HP Photosmart 8750 the ability to use nine unique colours.
1 The HP 97 ships with the HP Photosmart 8750. The HP 95 Tri-Colour Inkjet Print Cartridge is also available for lower-volume printing requirements.
2 The HP 102 ships with the HP Photosmart 8750. The HP 100 Grey Photo Inkjet Print Cartridge is also available for lower-volume printing requirements.

In designing the new printing system in the HP Photosmart 8750, the goal of HP's colour scientists, chemists, and engineers was to use nine inks in the most effective way to expand the printer's gamut of colours.
The printer's colour gamut is the set of all colours it can reproduce, and it is often represented in a three-dimensional space where the axes are hue (colour value), saturation (the purity of the colour), and luminescence (the brightness or darkness of the colour). HP's goal is to make the printer's colour gamut more closely match the sRGB colour space, which is the colour model used by most consumer digital cameras and monitors to record and display images.
In reds and greens, the HP 8-ink colour gamut already surpasses traditional silver-halide photo prints. But the sRGB colour space extends further into the blues than 8-ink printing can reproduce. The obvious opportunity for improving the colour gamut was to develop a new, specially formulated blue ink.
With 9-ink printing and the HP 101 Blue Photo Inkjet Print Cartridge, HP has met the goal to extend the colour gamut to more closely match the sRGB colour space. The bottom line: with HP's 9-ink technology you can print more of the vivid colours you see in the world and capture with your digital camera.

9-ink printing with the HP 101 Blue Photo Inkjet Print Cartridge provides up to 25% more blue chroma than 8-ink printing. The improvement is obvious in any photo print with intense blues. Outdoor photography enthusiasts will be especially impressed by the vivid blues in their landscapes, seascapes, and sports photos. Here are some additional advantages of HP 9-ink printing:
- Smooth colour gradations for virtually grain-free prints
- Neutral greys and deep, rich blacks
- Superior fade resistance
- Excellent performance on fine art paper
